I just stumbled over this, but apparently there is a sustainability awareness competition for students called the Sustainergies Cup, organized by HSB and Riksbyggen (two swedish national organizations for housing co-operatives) which encourages students to suggest solutions for how tenants can become more interested and aware of sustainable behaviours and practices.
As stated in the case description: "The vision is residents changing their behaviour at home and influencing their local housing co-operative into taking more actions to e.g. decrease the energy consumption, improve the waste management or improve the safety of the living environment. "
It may seem almost too simple, but the winners this year came up with a project called ”Den glada lappen” - specially designed post-it-notes that are meant to encourage residents to encourage and compliment each other's good habits and actions. The jury applauded the fact that positive psychology is used to cement healthy practices and that it is a reaction to the typically swedish passive-aggressive practice of complaining in public places by using "Arga lappar", or angry notes (which usually berate someone's bad behaviour anonymously. There are even compilation books about these!) I also have to crow a little bit here - the winners are from my Master's programme at Chalmers, so of course I'm proud and biased ;)
The funny thing is that we have an example of a "Glad lapp" in the laundry room of my house, and mind you, laundry rooms are often the hellspring from which "Arga lappar" are born in Sweden. But in my house, tenants are treated to this sight, alongside the potted plants that are there to give the room a homey feel:
Translation: "Don't water us, leave it to daddy"
